Hill-Rom Respiratory Care and the new Monarch™ Airway Clearance System

Hill-Rom Respiratory Care
For nearly 30 years, Hill-Rom has been part of the lives of people with chronic respiratory diseases and conditions, helping thousands of patients to clear the way for better days. These patients, their health care teams and caregivers work hard each day. This inspires Hill-Rom to work even harder for them, by advancing respiratory health through innovative therapies. To start, The Vest® Airway Clearance System is a high frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) devices that generates more patient airflow and has more research backing it – than any other airway clearance device of its kind.1,2 In addition to The Vest® System, Hill-Rom has continued to advance respiratory health through new products like the VitalCough® System, the MetaNeb® System, and the VisiVest™ System with VisiView™ connectivity.

Hill-Rom also recognizes how challenging it is to fit airway clearance therapy into busy schedules. That’s what inspired creating the new Monarch™ Airway Clearance System. By allowing patients to move freely they can fit more therapy into their day while doing the things they love and take more control of their lives.

Transtracheal Systems was a featured vendor at our recent CLHC “Moving Mountains Conference” last October 2016. See them again on October 7, 2017

Transtracheal Oxygen is another way to deliver long-term oxygen through a surgical procedure that places a plastic tube or catheter into the windpipe also known as the trachea.
The procedure has been around since 1986 and tens of thousands of people have had the catheter inserted for a variety of disease states or conditions. While the vast majority have a diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) others that use TTO are known to have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), bronchiectasis and a variety of other chest disorders.
People wishing to have TTOT must meet criteria for long term oxygen. They should be mobile outside the home at least part of the time and along with other criteria, they must comply with the Program of Care set up by the physician performing the procedure.

Some of the benefits of TTOT are that it takes the nasal cannula off the nares (nostrils) which often can become irritated. It can improve shortness of breath and decrease the work of breathing. Most importantly it empowers a person to get back to doing things they used to do and hence improve quality of life.

Studies have shown that continuous, long-term oxygen therapy improves survival and TTOT are another way to provide oxygen to the lungs.
